Saturday 25 May 1991, at the Lena Beach picnic area. Warm weather, a challenging pair of courses and the promise of a picnic drew a field the Empire put at 130 runners aged 4 to 62. Course: the hilly 5-K loops around Lena Point and returns to the picnic area by Glacier Highway. Winners, kilometre: Travis Zangri, 12, led the boys in 3:28; Rose Koch, also 12, the girls in 3:50, sixth overall. 54 ran it, mostly youngsters. Winners, 5-K: Rick Thibodeau 16:10, edging Frank Young by 36 seconds, from John McConnochie 17:07. Women: Susan Mellow 21:48, with Sue Scott 22:15 and Margaret Fiege 22:18. A field of 75. Both races: Travis Zangri, Skye Stekoll, Asher Hall and Elmer Ignell each appear in both lists. Held here: the kilometre's 54 match the report exactly. The 5-K list holds 74, numbered 1 to 74 with no gap, against a stated field of 75, so nothing identifies who is absent and the extra entrant may not have finished. Names: Linda Giguere's surname is printed two ways within this one event, Gaguere in the kilometre and Giguere in the 5-K, and both rows say so. Susan Mellow appears under a third spelling of a name the archive holds as Sue Mello, following the Empire's own correction of its 1990 Mudpuddle results.
